And whatsoever ye do in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Colossians 3:17 (KJV)

Notice that we can do in both word and deed. This means that God considers our spoken words a form of action – this is how powerful our words are! We are called to align our words with God’s Word, with what is true about us in Christ. As we do so, we cannot help but give God thanks for His boundless goodness towards us.
