Obedience To The Faith (Romans 1:5)

By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Romans 1:5 (KJV)

Obedience in the new covenant is obedience to the faith. Rather than trying to live by the law, our obedience is our commitment to right believing. We are obedient when we believe what God says about us which enables the Holy Spirit to work on the inside of us, shaping us more fully into who God has called us to be.

God Is At Work In You (Philippians 2:13)

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

God is working in us, transforming us from the inside out. As we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit goes to work on the inside of us, producing in us the desire and the ability to live right. When we believe that Jesus has already made us righteous, the Holy Spirit will enable us to live and act in ways that correspond to what we believe.

Know Who You Are (2 Corinthians 5:21)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

On the cross Jesus was made sin for us so that we could be made the righteousness of God in Him. We did nothing to earn or deserve this, it is purely the gift of God’s unmerited favor. Understanding who we are in Christ enables us to live out of who He has called us to be.

No Longer Our Own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

What? know yet not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)

When we gave our lives to Jesus, His Holy Spirit took up residence within us. This means God’s presence and power now dwell in us. And so let us live every day knowing that we belong to the Lord, that we have been bought with a price, thereby opening ourselves to the life of victory and purpose God has called us to live.

Released From Performance-Based Thinking (Galatians 3:24)

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Galatians 3:24 (KJV)

The purpose of the law of Moses was to show us that through our performance we could never come into right standing with God. The law therefore was our schoolmaster to bring us to an end of ourselves and to Christ. Now we are made one hundred percent righteous in the eyes of God—not through anything we have done or could ever do—but simply by receiving Jesus as our righteousness. This releases us from the burden of performance-based thinking and into the joy and peace that comes with living as the sons and daughters of the Most High God.

Know Who You Are (2 Corinthians 5:21)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

Right identification is crucial for victorious living. The moment we got born again we were made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We did nothing to earn or deserve this, it is simply the gift of God’s unmerited favor. Understanding who we are in Him enables us to live out of who He has called and purposed us to be.
