And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 4:23-24 (KJV)
Putting on the new man is a shifting in identity. We no longer look at who we were in the flesh, we look to who Jesus has made us to be. The more that this becomes our meditation, the more will we begin to live according to our identity in Christ. And that’s when we bear much fruit in His name.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
On the cross the great exchange took place. Jesus took all of our sin, and in exchange we received His righteousness. As a result we have been made one hundred percent righteous in the eyes of God. Receiving our identity as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus is key for us living the victorious life.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
God is working in us, transforming us from the inside out. As we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit goes to work on the inside of us, producing in us the desire and the ability to live right. When we believe that Jesus has already made us righteous, the Holy Spirit will enable us to live and act in ways that correspond to what we believe.
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Romans 8:16 (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit bears witness of our identity in Christ. He continually whispers into our hearts that we are children of God, that we have His favor and blessing. The more we listen to the Holy Spirit who will confirm the Word of God, the less receptive will we be to the voices of fear, doubt, confusion or condemnation. Let us spend some time every day with the Holy Spirit as He guides us into all truth.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
Ephesians 5:8-9 (NKJV)
We have been set free from darkness, and we have been made light in the Lord. Remembering our identity in Christ becomes the foundation for strong and mature faith. As we simply trust in who Jesus has made us to be, we will see the fruits of the Spirit manifesting in our life.
