Could it be any clearer that our former identity is now and forever deprived of its power? For we were co-crucified with him to dismantle the stronghold of sin within us, so that we would not continue to live one moment longer submitted to sin’s power.
Romans 6:6 (TPT)
We have been delivered from the never-ending struggle of always working harder to try and earn and deserve the righteousness that God has freely given us as a gift. Through our union with Jesus, condemnation has lost its power, and we can now joyfully consider our old identity – rooted in fear, guilt, and shame – to be co-crucified with Him. We have been raised up together with Jesus into continuous newness of life. Friends, this is a spiritual reality that we are called to appropriate through renewing our minds to it, and through our intimate fellowship with the One who never leaves us nor forsakes us.
